Ladies Doubles Final 2017

Ladies Doubles Final

Jess Fowell & Sarah Tate v Nicky Long & Bridget Campbell

Umpire’s Match Report

Jess and Sarah started this match with a display of powerful ground strokes that saw them race to a 5-0 lead before the heavens opened and play was suspended for 40 minutes.
Once the squall had departed, the players took to the court again and the set was quickly concluded 6-0.
The second set was a very different affair, with Nick and Bridget finding their mojo and battling to lead 5-4. The tenth game went to five deuces before Sarah held her serve and the set proceeded to a tie-break at six all.
Here Nicky and Bridget ran out of steam and Sarah & Jess took the match 7-3 in the breaker.
This was a match with some of the strongest ground strokes we have seen for several years. The score does not reflect the standard of play which saw games falling after clever rallies and many deuces. Jess and Sarah covered the court well and led from the start, but the determination of Nicky and Bridget was evident at all times.
