Ladies Singles Finals Day 2017

Ladies Singles Final

Penny Ruddick v Jess Fowell

Umpire’s Match Report

Jess started strongly with good length shots keeping Penny away from the net, taking the first 3 games. Penny found a way to get to her favourite volleying position and the score was 4-3. Jess showed her mettle and upped her game further to take the first set 6-4.
In the second set Penny slowed the game down, and made further forays to the net and despite Jess stretching her left and right, Penny closed out the set 6-3 to make it one set all.
A tense tie-break followed, but Penny began as she meant to go on and ran out as the winner, 10 points to 2.
Both ladies survived difficult conditions with rain and a gusty breeze, plus a slip in the first set for Penny that left her bloodied, but unbowed!
As we have come to expect, the match was keenly contested but played with a fair and friendly attitude from both players, making it a pleasure to umpire.
